AMES, Iowa - Iowa State four-time NCAA champion distance runner Lisa Koll is back in Ames preparing for the USA Track and Field Championships in Des Moines. Koll will run the 10,000 meters at 8:55 p.m. at Drake Stadium on June 24. Koll is coming off a memorable NCAA Championships double last week in Eugene, Ore. Koll won the 10,000 and the 5,000 meter runs and took memorable victory laps before a sellout Hayward Field crowd that fully appreciated her accomplishments.
The NCAA recently did a feature on Koll, who graduated in three years from ISU with a 3.98 GPA in biology. She is currently in her second year of veterinary medicine school at Iowa State. The NCAA feature was filmed in May.
Koll was named the Honda Sports Award honoree as the top female collegiate track and field performer this season. She led the Cyclones to an eighth-place NCAA team finish, ISU's all-time best.
Koll ended her Iowa State career as the collegiate record-holder in the 10,000 meters (31:18.07) and ranks as the sixth-fastest American ever in the event. The Fort Dodge native is an 11-time All-American and nine-time Big 12 champion. She was the first Big 12 student-athlete to win the same track event four times (10,000 meters).
