WATERLOO, Iowa - Iowa State tennis concluded its second tournament of the fall season today at Byrnes Park. After three days of singles and doubles competition, ISU had two individuals advance to semifinal matches in singles.
Iowa's Cassandra Escobar defeated ISU's Nikki Reber in semifinals competition today, scoring a 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 win. Reber's teammate Emma Waites faced Missouri's Annemijn Koenen and fell 6-1, 4-6 and 6-0.
Assistant coach Chris Williams does not believe that Iowa State fell based on skill, however.
“We need to be a little bit more positive on the courts,” Williams said. “I think that's why they prevailed; not because they necessarily better than we are.”
Iowa State is now looking ahead to the Air Force Tournament at Colorado Springs the first weekend in October.
“We're not used to playing at that high altitude, so Air Force is going to be a little different.” Williams said. “Going out to face different teams with different players will help us get better and improve our game as a team.”
