Cyclones Finish Out Fall With 10 Wins at WMU

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Iowa State tennis closed out its fall season when competition at the Western Michigan Super Challenge wrapped up this afternoon. The Cyclones saw singles action against both DePaul and Indiana at WMU's West Hills Athletic Club, and collected 10 wins throughout the weekend.

Marie-Christine Chartier went three-for-three in singles this weekend when she defeated DePaul's Kelsey Lawson. Chartier came back from a second set deficit to oust the Blue Demon sophomore 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (8).

"Marie did what she needed to do to win," head coach Armando Espinosa said. "She stayed focused and capitalized on opportunities when they presented themselves, and we're very happy with her."

Today's two other Iowa State wins came from a senior and a freshman. Maria Macedo fought back against DePaul's Patricia Fargas to win her match 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (8), and Caroline Andersen defeated Diana Kyllman, of Indiana, in three sets as well. The Bergen, Norway native clinched the match 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (8).

The Cyclones will break until January when they resume action at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational at Ft. Myers, Fla. on Jan. 14. Iowa State will open its home schedule on March 9 against Drake.
