AMES, Iowa – Three freshman multi-event specialists were the sole competitors for the Iowa State track and field teams Thursday at the Lied Recreation Center, kicking off the first day of the ISU Classic.
The Iowa State women were led by Anna Holtermann, who was seventh overall, tying her personal best pentathlon mark with 3,268 points. Holtermann set personal best marks in the high jump (5-00.50) and 800-meter run (2:38.73) while also tying her current personal best mark in the 60-meter hurdles (9.27).
Cyclone Freshman Jenny Dillon also set personal bests in the shot put (30-01) and 800-meter run (2:23.47) while competing in the pentathlon. Dillon was eighth with 3,210 points.
Action at the 2011 ISU Classic resumes Friday at 9 a.m. CST with the men's heptathlon 60-meter hurdles. Field events are scheduled for a noon start with the women's non-seeded weight throw, while track events are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. with the women's distance medley relay.
