PALO ALTO, Calif. – Iowa State's three-time All-American Betsy Saina continued to lead the Cyclone track and field team in its season-opening meet Friday at the Stanford Invitational. Saina earned a third-place finish in the 10,000-meter run, finishing in a time just under her personal best mark (33:13.87).
Senior thrower Britta Christofferson was the only Cyclone to compete in field events Friday, earning fourth-place in the hammer throw .
The Cyclone men were led by freshman Edward Kemboi, as he took sixth in the 1,500-meter run, crossing the finish line in 3:51.53.
In addition to the Stanford Invitational, three Iowa State athletes competed in the San Francisco State Distance Carnival inside Cox Stadium Friday afternoon. Cyclone freshman Isaac Chelimo recorded a sixth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Distance veteran Taylor Petersen earned a fourth-place finish for the Cyclone women, clocking a personal-best time (17:10.31) in the 5,000-meter run.
