AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State women's track and field team will send three athletes to compete in the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station, Texas.
Multi-events will kick off the meet both days, beginning at 10 a.m. CST on Friday and noon on Saturday. Iowa State will compete in the high jump Friday at 6:30 p.m. CST, the 5,000-meter run Friday at 7:05 p.m. CST and the shot put Saturday at 3:45 p.m. CST.
Two-time All-American
Betsy Saina earned an automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships after running a personal best time in the 5,000-meter run (15:50.74) at the ISU Classic Feb. 12. She will compete for her second championship title this season after winning the 5,000-meter run at the Big 12 Indoor Championships Feb. 25. The Kenya native was also recently named the Midwest Region's Female Track Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for her performances during the 2010-11 indoor season. The junior is currently second on Iowa State's all-time indoor performance list in the 5,000-meters.

Danielle Frere will compete in the shot put for the Cyclones after earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, as announced by the NCAA Monday night. After earning All-Big 12 honors in the shot put and weight throw Feb. 25-26, Frere threw a personal-best mark in the shot put (54-05.25) at the NCAA Qualifier March 5. Frere's mark is currently third on the Iowa State all-time indoor performance list.

Hannah Willms also earned an at-large bid to the NCAA championships, with a season-best mark set at the ISU Classic (5-11.50). The Dike-New Hartford prep earned All-Big 12 honors at the Big 12 Indoor Championships after finishing fourth in the high jump.
