Track and Field Prepares for USA, Canadian Championships

AMES, Iowa - Four Iowa State track and field athletes are set for competition in their respective national championship meets as All-American Dani Stack, Danielle Frere and Jenny Dillon head to Eugene, Ore. for the USA and Junior USA Track and Field Championships this week while Ian Warner will head back to his native Canada for the Canadian Track and Field Championships in Calgary, Alberta.
After a fourth-place finish in the 10,000-meter run at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships, All-American Dani Stack will take to the track for one last 10K in the 2011 season. She enters the championship meet with a qualifying time of 33:28.36, placing as the 15th-fastest qualifier heading into the race. The 10,000-meter run is scheduled for 9:15 p.m. CDT on Thursday inside historic Hayward Field in Eugene.
Throws standout Danielle Frere enters the shot put at the USA Championships with a qualifying mark of 55-1 after redshirting the outdoor season. Frere will compete Thursday at 8:20 p.m. CDT.
Freshman multi-event specialist Jenny Dillon holds a personal best 4,592 points in the heptathlon and will compete in the multi-event competition at the Junior USA Championships in Eugene Thursday and Friday. Dillon will compete in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200-meter dash on Thursday with the long jump, javelin and 800 meter run on Friday. Dillon capped off her first collegiate season with a 12th-place finish in the heptathlon at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships.
Ian Warner, a native of Markham, Ontario, holds the 14th-fastest qualifier heading into the 100-meter dash at the Canadian Track and Field Championships. Warner posted a 10.44 clocking in the 100-meter dash at Hayward Field in the first round of the NCAA West Regional. The Iowa State junior will run in the preliminary round of the 100-meter dash Thursday at 7:30 p.m. CDT.
Former Cyclone distance runner Brandon Rooney will also be competing at the USA Championships. Rooney plans to run the 1,500 meter run unattached and enters the race with a qualifying time of 3:40.30. The semifinal of the men's 1,500 meter run is scheduled for Thursday at 8:30 p.m. CDT.
ESPN2 will air live coverage of the USA Track and Field Championships Friday from 10 p.m. through midnight CDT and will re-air the coverage Saturday from noon - 2 p.m. CDT. NBC will provide coverage of the meet Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. CDT. Flotrack will also be providing a live stream of the USA Championships.
CBC Sports will provide live coverage of the Canadian Track and Field Championships Saturday from 3-5 p.m. CDT.
