AMES, Iowa - Incoming track and field freshman Christina Hillman once again proved she can compete among the best shot put athletes as she earned the shot put silver medal at the Pan American Junior Championships July 22-24 in Miramar, Fla. Hillman threw a personal best mark of 49-07, improving upon her previous best mark of 49-06.50, set at the New Balance Outdoor Track and Field Championships June 16-18 in Greensboro, N.C.
The Thomas More Prep standout was the top American finisher at the Pan-Am Championships, beaten only by Peru's Alessandra Gamboa DuLong. Gamboa DuLong's posted the winning mark of 49-11.75.
Hillman is a seven-time Delaware prep champion who won the 2011 New Balance Indoor National High School Championship and the 2011 Penn Relays shot put champion. She won three outdoor shot put and discus state titles at St. Thomas More Prep and was second in the New Balance 2011 Outdoor Track and Field Championship shot put competition in Greensboro, N.C. She has a discus PR of 128-03.
