WATERLOO, Iowa – Iowa State will send four student-athletes to play their first fall tennis matches this weekend at the UNI Invitational in Waterloo, Iowa. A travel squad of four will compete, with
Maria Fernanda Macedo as the senior leading her three freshmen teammates.
Meghan Cassens,
Caroline Hauge Andersen and
Ksenia Pronina will make their debut in cardinal and gold at Byrnes Park.
“We're going to see how the freshmen handle the pressure,” Iowa State head coach
Armando Espinosa said. “It's their first college-level tournament so we are going to evaluate how they deal with pressure situations.”
Hauge Andersen and Pronina, the two international freshmen, will finally experience competing at the collegiate level. Espinosa is looking forward to seeing how the trio will handle themselves at their first collegiate event.
"When you're 17 or 18 and all the sudden you're playing against a 21 year old, your level of maturity is going to change,” he said. “They're going to be a little bit nervous, and we'd like to see how they deal with that.”
Competition at the University of Northern Iowa Invitational will begin Friday morning and continue through Sunday afternoon.
