FT. MYERS, Fla. - The Iowa State tennis team will kick off its spring season this weekend at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational tournament.
A travel party of eight Cyclones will face competitors from the Miami (Fla.), North Florida, Wichita State, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Northwestern State, Stephen F. Austin, and their hosts, Florida Gulf Coast.
The tournament consists of eight flights of singles and eight of doubles. Tournament play begins at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Florida Gulf Coast Tennis Complex.
The Cyclones are led by senior Maria Fernanda Macedo. Macedo has 57 career singles wins, which ranks fifth all-time at Iowa State. The Mexico City native has accumulated 106 total singles and doubles wins, good for sixth all-time at Iowa State. She captured the top singles flight championship at the UNI Invitational this fall.
