Cyclone Women Claim Two Titles at Day One of ISU Open

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State track and field teams concluded the first day of the ISU Open with two event titles and six personal best marks. Competing for the first time in 2012, the Cyclones earned first-place finishes in the women's distance medley relay and the women's weight throw.

Iowa State's women's distance medley relay teams dominated the field of 19 teams as the Cyclone women took home both first and second place. The Cyclone 'B' team of India Lee, Ejiro Okoro, Beth Olson and Dani Stack claimed the DMR title with a time of 11:41.69, marking the second straight year the women's 'B' team has done so. The Iowa State 'A' team of Katy Moen, Emily Meese, Maggie Gannon and Betsy Saina placed second with a time of 11:53.96.

The Cyclone women also had a strong performance in the weight throw competition, taking five of the top-10 places. Competing unattached, redshirt junior Laishema Hampton won the weight throw competition with a throw of 62 feet, 7.75 inches. Iowa State also claimed second, third, sixth and seventh as Hayli Bozarth, Tressa Borchardt and Christina Hillman all recorded new personal best marks in the event.

For the men, day one of the ISU Open was highlighted by redshirt freshman Collin Fett, who earned a second-place finish in the weight throw behind former Cyclone Josh Koglin. Fett threw a personal-best mark of 58-01.25 to finish as the event's runner-up.

The Iowa State Open resumes Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with the women's shot put and the women's non-seeded 3,000-meter run. Live results will be available. Results will be posted on cyclones.com at the conclusion of each day's events.
