AMES, Iowa - Incoming Cyclone libero Bria Rasmussen posted 5.71 digs per set last season at Grand Island High School in her hometown of Grand Island, Neb. Rasmussen and the Islanders were district champions for the second-straight year in 2011 and were conference tournament finalists a year after winning the conference title in 2010. After helping Grand Island to a 29-5 record and a trip to the state tournament, Rasmussen was named an all-state honorable mention by the Lincoln Journal Star.
"Bria Rasmussen was someone we'd been watching to shore-up our defense and we wanted to know in the next few years that we could be one of the best defensive teams in the country," Cyclone head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch said. "She really allows us to do that; I love her platform when she passes. She's a great athlete with quick reactions, is very competitive and very solid."
As a junior, Rasmussen averaged 5.34 digs per set as she and the Islanders were regular season and conference tournament champions. Rasmussen earned all-conference and all-state honors for her contributions to the 2010 squad's success.
More than just a volleyball star at Grand Island, Rasmussen is a letterwinner in both basketball and soccer, named an all-state honorable mention by the Grand Island Independent for her work as a forward on the Islander's basketball team.
A volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Rasmussen is a member of the National Honors Society and ranked first in her academic class at Grand Island.
