MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Iowa State dropped a close 4-3 decision to No. 70 College of Charleston women's tennis team Friday afternoon at Patriots Point. The Cyclones are now 0-6, and the match improves College of Charleston's record to 3-2 overall.
Simona Cacciuttolo enjoyed her first singles win of the spring season today. Cacciuttolo, a junior, controlled No. 3 singles and ousted Caroline Newman 6-1, 6-3. Marie-Christine Chartier held down the no. 6 spot for the Cyclones, defeating Olivia McMillan 6-3, 6-4.
At No. 2 singles, freshman Ksenia Pronina won her fourth match of the season when she outscored Kelly Kambourelis 6-3, 6-1. Pronina paired up with Cacciuttolo to meet Kambourelis and Jenny Falcone at No. 2 doubles, and the Cyclones defeated the Cougars 8-7, securing the only duo win of the day for Iowa State.
Iowa State continues action in South Carolina tomorrow, taking on Charleston Southern at 10:00 a.m. (CDT)
