AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State track and field team laid out an impressive showing at its final home meet of the indoor season, Saturday in the Lied Recreation Center. The Cyclones captured five event titles with the hopes of earning at large bids to the NCAA Indoor Championships next weekend in Boise, Idaho.
Cyclone runner Rico Loy won his second consecutive mile race, winning the event with a time of 4:03.35 after capturing the Big 12 title last weekend. Loy was closely followed by teammate Mohamed Hrezi, who was the races runner-up in 4:04.39. Â
Iowa State newcomer Ejiro Okoro ran a personal best of 2:05.77 in the 800-meter run, finishing fourth in the event. Okoro is now in contention to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Indoor Championships. Her time now ranks second on the Iowa State Indoor All-Time Performers List.
Competing unattached, Edward Kemboi ran to a victory in the 800-meter run, clocking a time of 1:46.64. Kemboi's cousin, Edwin Serem, also ran an impressive race, winning the 3,000-meter run in 8:32.52.Â
The Cyclone women won two titles for the day, from Laishema Hampton and Danielle Frere, both of whom were competing unattached. Frere captured the shot put title with a mark of 54-02.50 while Hampton won the weight throw with a mark of 66-02.50.Â
