FT. MYERS, Fla. - The Iowa State tennis team continued action at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational Sunday. The Cyclones had a strong showing on the second day of the three-day tournament.
In singles action the Cyclones posted an overall record of 5-2 on the day. Ana Gasparovic won her first match as a Cyclone in a competitive match against Daniela Simonova of Northwestern State. Gasparovic took the sets, 7-6(13), 6-2.
Simona Cacciuttolo defeated Brittany Yang of Liberty in a three set match, 6-7 (11), 6-2, 10-3. Jenna Langhorst defeated Valerie Thong of Liberty in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Emma Waites competed against Jessie Boda of Liberty winning the match , 6-1, 6-3.
The Cyclones doubles teams went unbeaten on the day. Ksenia Pronina and partner Simona Cacciuttolo have advanced to the championship with a win over Botha/Bechtel of Florida Gulf Coast, 8-6. Pronina and Cacciuttolo will face Kseniya Bardabush and Franziska Sprinkmeyer of North Texas in the final.
The team will finish up its last invitational of the season tomorrow.
