Gray To Be Inducted In Stillwater On Saturday

STILLWATER, Oklahoma - Two-time NCAA champion wrestler Ron Gray will be one of four inductees to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame's 2013 class this weekend.
Gray was one of legendary head coach Harold Nichols' first stars on the mat. He was a three-time All-American (1957, 1958, 1959) and two-time national champion (1958, 1959) under Nichols direction. The Eagle Grove, Iowa native, was named the "Outstanding Wrestler" at the 1959 NCAA Wrestling Championships. He compiled a 53-2-1 career mark and was voted Iowa State's Athlete of the Year in 1959.
After graduating from Iowa State, Gray taught and coached wrestling at Melvindale High School in Melvindale, Mich. While at Melvindale, he coached six state champions before becoming the head coach at Franklin & Marshall College from 1966-1971. Gray left Franklin & Marshall and became the head wrestling coach at Kent State.
During Gray's time at Kent State (1972-1996), the Golden Flashes won nine Mid-American Conference titles and Gray was named MAC Coach of the Year five times. His Kent State grapplers won 46 individual MAC titles and earned All-America honors six times.
Gray is also a member of the Iowa High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame, Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame, NCAA Helms Hall of Fame, Iowa State Letterwinners Club Hall of Fame, Kent State Hall of Fame and Glen Brand Wrestling Hall of Fame. He currently resides in Kent, Ohio.
Olympians Melvin Douglas, Dan Chandler and Matt Ghaffari join Gray as inductees this weekend.
