Pronina To Play In Finals at FGCU Invite

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Iowa State junior Ksenia Pronina advanced to the finals of the top flight Sunday at the FGCU Spring Invite.
Pronina moved on to the final round of Flight A Singles after taking down Tamara Slijepcevic of Arkansas State, 7-6 (5), 6-3. Freshman Samantha Budai defeated Florida Atlantic's Catalina Ene, 6-2, 6-1, and will move ahead in the backdraw.
In Flight B Singles, freshman Lydia Green and sophomore Ana Gasparovic both walked away from backdraws with wins. Green defeated Florida Atlantic's Stephanie Cardullo, 6-4, 6-4. Gasparovic will move ahead due to opponent injury.
Gasparovic also teamed up with junior Meghan Cassens in Flight A Doubles for a win over sisters Sarah Means and Elizabeth Means of Florida Gulf Coast, 7-5. Junior Caroline Andersen and senior Emma Waites also won as a pair in Flight B Doubles over Arkansas State's Stefanov and Sofia Krsmanovic, 6-1.
Suffering singles losses were Andersen and Waites. Andersen put up a fight against Arkansas State's Chiara Stefanov, but ultimately lost, 7-5, 6-2. Waites had a tough loss to Northerwestern State of Louisiana's Daniela Simonova.
Budai and Pronina also suffered a loss in Flight A Doubles semifinals to Northwestern State University of Louisiana's Polina Konop and Tatiana Larina, 6-4.
Tournament play will finish up on Monday, with finals set to begin at 7 a.m. Central Time.
