AMES, Iowa - Iowa State wrestling head coach Kevin Jackson has announced the signings of four future Cyclones. Each wrestler signed his National Letter of Intent last week for the 2015-16 season.
The incoming class currently includes two of Intermat.com's top-100 wrestlers. The group has also won a total of three national titles and five state titles. Jackson is looking forward to adding these wrestlers to his roster.
“I'm very excited to have the quality young men join our team,” Jackson said. “They are great citizens and work hard in the classroom and on the mat. We're looking forward to their contributions over the next 5 years.”
The signees are…
Markus Simmons. Simmons, ranked No. 66 overall by Intermat and No. 7 at 126 by Flowrestling, is a two-time Oklahoma state champion and three-time finalist, competing at the 126-pound weight class. The Broken Arrow HS prep took home All-America honors at FloNationals with a fifth-place finish and took fourth at the prestigious Walsh Ironman tournament. Simmons projects to be a 125/133-pounder for the Cyclones.
Colston Diblasi. Diblasi is ranked as the nation's No. 85 overall prospect and looks to compete at 165 for the Cardinal and gold. The Park Hill, Missouri, native is a two-time state champion and captured the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) national title in 2012. Diblasi has been ranked as high as No. 10 while competing in the 152-pound weight class.
Ben Ewing. Ewing comes in as a three-time place winner at the Kansas State High School Championships, capturing the state title as a sophomore. He is a two-time Rocky Mountain Nationals champion and projects as a 197/heavyweight for the Cyclones. Ewing is the son of former Cyclone Randy Ewing and nephew of ISU All-American Dave Ewing.
Chase Straw. Straw is a two-time Fargo All-American from Independence, Iowa. He is a two-time state place winner, placing third in each of the past two seasons. Straw is slated to wrestle for ISU in the 157-pound weight class.
