SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Five Iowa State athletes traveled east this afternoon to compete at Notre Dame's Alex Wilson Invitational. The Cyclones ran in the 400-meter, 800-meter and mile events.
In the 400m, Derek Jones bettered his personal record for the second time in as many weeks. The Glenwood, Iowa, native finished eighth overall with a time of 48.35 seconds, crossing the line .43 seconds faster than his previous mark. Jones' time is the fastest run by a Cyclone this season.
Three Cyclones notched sub 4-minute, 10-second performances in Alex Dillenbeck (8th), Brian Llamas (9th) and Edward Kemboi (11th). Dillenbeck crossed the line in 4:04.5 for his second-fastest time in the last two years. Llamas and Kemboi finished the race in 4:08.23 and 4:09.27, respectively.
Joe Gioielli was the lone Cyclone to compete in the 800-meter run. Gioielli finished 11th overall in 1:52.27, marking his fastest time of the year.
