How it Happened…
The Cyclones and Bulldogs would start things off in a back-and-forth affair with the first quarter featuring six lead changes. ISU would come out, holding a one-point lead, 21-20.
Iowa State would let things get away from them in the early goings of the second quarter as Drake went on a 12-0 run to start the quarter. Drake would grab as much as an 11-point lead, however, the Cyclones would finish the quarter strong with four different Cyclones scoring en route to an 8-0 run to end the quarter. With just 10 seconds left on the clock in the first half, TeeTee Starks would take it coast-to-coast and finish the 8-0 ISU run with a beautiful underhanded layup. Drake would take a 36-35 lead into the locker room. Johnson led the Cyclones at the end of the first half with 10 points, while Jadda Buckley had five dimes.
Iowa State would begin the third quarter with a 6-0 run, but the Bulldogs would come marching back with a 16-2 run and close the third quarter with a 57-48 lead. Kidd Blaskowsky would lead Iowa State in the third quarter with six points.
Drake would not let up the pressure and would continue to squash Iowa State's offensive momentum. Despite several last-ditch efforts late in the fourth quarter, Drake would snag a 74-70 win over Iowa State.
