AMES, Iowa – The No. 19 Iowa State wrestling team (2-2, 0-0 Big 12) is set to host the Wyoming Cowboys in their Big 12 dual-opener. The Cowboys are one of the six affiliate members that are new to the Big 12 this season.
At the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, Lelund Weatherspoon fell one match shy of earning podium honors. In Saturday's dual, he'll each face No. 13 Benjamin Stroh. At 141, either Dante Rodriguez or John Meeks will be pitted against Wyoming's No. 15 Bryce Meredith.

-Wyoming opened the season with a win over Big 12-foe Air Force, defeating the Falcons 22-16 on the road.
-Most recently, they fell to Nebraska, 35-4.
Cyclone Notebook
-No. 19 Iowa State returns home to open up conference dual action. They'll take on the Wyoming Cowboys at Hilton Coliseum on Saturday.
-The Cyclones most recently finished tied for 19th at the 2015 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. ISU placed two wrestlers on the podium in Earl Hall (4th) and Tanner Weatherman (7th)
-The fifth-seeded Hall wrestled to a 4-2 record on the weekend with two of his wins coming by major decision. The 4th place finish marked the fourth time in his career that he's found the podium at the CKLV.
-Weatherman posted a 5-2 record out in Vegas. In the 7th place match, he defeated UNI's No. 4 Cooper Moore by fall in 0:45. This was also Weatherman's third time on the podium at the CKLV, with each coming at a different weight (184, 174, 165)
-Iowa State wrestlers wrestled hard in OT at the CKLV. In matches that went to extra-time, ISU was 6-0 for the tournament.
-Following his 6-2 win over Iowa's Logan Ryan in the Cy-Hawk Dual, Dante Rodriguez was named Co-Big 12 Wrestler of the Week. This was the first time in his career that he'd earned these honors.
-In their 51-0 roll over Midland, The Cyclones won six matches by fall, the most by an Iowa State squad since 1998 when ISU defeated Cornell College, 48-6.
-At the Cyclone Open, 10 Iowa State wrestlers placed in the top six, with four making it to the finals.
-Earl Hall and Lelund Weatherspoon both posted 5-0 records at the Cyclone Open and won titles at their respective weight classes.
-Kyle Larson has been a pinning machine. The redshirt junior has recorded six falls on the year.
-Four Iowa State wrestlers have been pegged in the national rankings to begin the year. Earl Hall (7, 7, 6) Gabe Moreno (NR, 17, 17) Tanner Weatherman (13, 17, 18) and Lelund Weatherspoon (12, 17, 12) all are receiving national rankings from FloWrestling, IntermatWrestle and TheOpenMat.
-Redshirt senior Tanner Weatherman and redshirt junior Lelund Weatherspoon have bumped down to 165 pounds and 174 pounds for the 2015-16 season.
-This summer, the Big 12 announced that it would be expanding the Big 12 Wrestling Championships. With the expansion, Air Force, Northern Colorado, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Utah Valley and Wyoming will all compete at the Big 12 Championship.
-The Iowa State wrestling program is celebrating its 100th year of wrestling this season.
-Kevin Jackson is in his seventh season at the helm of the Iowa State wrestling team.
