Rotich Smashes 5,000 PR in BU Season Opener

BOSTON - Perez Rotich kicked off the Iowa State indoor track and field season with a big performance in the 5,000-meter run at the BU Season Opener at the Track & Tennis Center in Boston. Part of an elite field that featured multiple professions, and members of New Mexico's national championship-winning cross country squad, Rotich finished seventh in a new personal best time of 16:11.37.
Rotich, the 2015 Big 12 Cross Country champion, improved her on her personal best in the indoor 5,000 of 16:30.93 at last season's Iowa State Classic by over 19 seconds. The improvement also saw her jump from 10th to sixth on ISU's all-time performers list in the women's indoor 5K.
The Iowa State track and field season will resume in the new year. The Cyclones' first event of 2016 will be the Holiday Inn Invitational, hosted by Nebraska, on Jan. 15-16.
