Multi-Events Kick Off Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa – Iowa State began action at Drake Relays with day one of multi-events, with Cyclones competing throughout decathlon and heptathlon events.

Cooper Spurgeon began the decathlon with an all-conditions 100m best of 11.09w for seventh, and then took eighth in the long jump with 21-8 (6.60m).

Kole Becker led ISU to sixth in the decathlon shot put, hitting an outdoor-best 43-6 1/2 (13.27m). Cooper Spurgeon placed ninth (42-4 1/4) and Tristan Rheingans had an all-time best of 40-0 3/4 for 11th.

Becker kept his day going recording a high jump personal record with a clearance of 6-3 1/2 (1.92m).

In the heptathlon, Maia Denge-Hagen clocked a wind-aided 14.14w for an all-conditions best to take sixth in the event. Denge-Hagen followed that up tying her outdoor high jump PR with 5-6 1/2 (1.69m) for third. Zola N'Douma-Mona placed fourth matching her season best of 5-5 1/4 (1.66m).

N'Douma-Mona then hit a huge mark in the shot put with a personal best of 49-9 1/4 (15.17m), nearly on the all-time ISU top 10. N'Douma-Mona placed second, half an inch off the event win.

Day two of the Drake Relays begins at 10 a.m. with the final day of the multi-events. The distance carnival follows beginning in the afternoon.
