MINNEAPOLIS- The Iowa State tennis team struggled in a 4-1 road loss to Marquette Saturday in Minneapolis. The Cyclones are now 2-5, while Marquette improves to an 8-2 record.
Senior Meghan Cassens extends her singles win streak to three with a win over Ali Dawson, 6-3, 6-2. The Tacoma, Washington, native has earned the only point for the Cyclones in the last two matches.
Doubles resulted in tough losses for ISU at the No. 1 and 2 spots, putting Marquette up by one heading into singles matches. Sophomore Sami Budai and senior Ksenia Pronina fell at No. 1 to Erin Gebes and Ana Pimienta, 6-4. Senior Meghan Cassens and junior Alejandra Galvis fell at No. 2, 6-3, with Ali Dawson and Aleeza Kanner, ending doubles play and clinching the point for the Golden Eagles.
Difficult singles matches ended in disappointment for the Cyclones. Losses from Budai, sophomore Natalie Phippen, and senior Caroline Andersen clinched the win for Marquette, leaving Pronina and Galvis' matches once again abandoned.
