Cyclone Tennis Defeats Utah State, 5-2

IOWA CITY, Iowa- The Iowa State tennis team defeated the Utah State Aggies on Saturday in Iowa City, 5-2. The Cyclones improve to 2-1 on the season, while the previously undefeated Aggies are now 4-1.
The Cyclones suffered a 4-1 loss to Iowa on Friday, but bounced back against a talented Utah State team.
The Aggies, whose last win was over No. 55-ranked BYU, earned the first win of the day at No. 2 doubles, with McKenzie Davis and Maggie O'Meara taking down senior Meghan Cassens and junior Ana Gasparovic, 6-3.
The Cyclones answered with back-to-back wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to clinch the doubles point. Senior Ksenia Pronina and junior Sami Budai defeated Meghan Lyall and Kallie Sperry, 6-4. Senior Caroline Andersen and junior Alejandra Galvis came out on top against Nini Guensler and Lexi Turley, 7-5.
The Cyclones continued to do well in singles play, with four wins. Cassens took down Turley, 6-3, 6-1, while Gasparovic earned a win over Sperry, 7-5, 6-3.
After being down in the first set, Pronina went to three sets earning a win at the No. 2 slot, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8, over Guensler. Galvis won, 7-6(2), 6-2, over Sabrina Demerath.
ISU will play UNI on Wednesday in Cedar Falls at 2 p.m.
