IRVING, Texas - Last month Iowa State redshirt senior Kyven Gadson solidified himself as one of the nation's top wrestlers and today he was recognized as one of the best off the mat as well. The 197-pound NCAA champion was honored as the 2015 Big 12 Wrestling Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Gadson, the 69th national champion in Cyclone wrestling history, is working toward a Master's Degree in Higher Education. He maintains a 3.11 grade point average and serves as the co-president of the 2014-15 Iowa State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee(SAAC). He is also the president of the Big 12 SAAC for the 2014-15 school year.
The Waterloo, Iowa native ended his senior campaign with a 30-1 mark and became the 19th Cyclone wrestler to win at least three conference titles. He outscored his opponents at the 2015 NCAA Championships by a total of 38-11 without surrendering a takedown. He capped off his career as a three-time All-American.
Gadson is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 first-team member.
