AMES, Iowa - Six members of the Iowa State softball team have been named to the 2015 Academic All-Big 12 Softball Team, the conference announced Thursday. The Cyclone septet were among the 52 Academic All-Big 12 honorees.
ISU had six first team honorees, led by Jorden Spendlove. Spendlove, a senior from San Antonio, became a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree. This marks the second consecutive year that ISU has had a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team member, Sara Davison earning her third last season. Joining Spendlove on the first team is two-time first team members Aly Cappaert and Maddie Reese and first-time honorees Paris Imholz, Katie Johnson and Stacy Roggentien.
Brittany Gomez made her second consecutive appearance on the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
