AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team (1-1, 0-0 Big 12) will have three opportunities this weekend to bounce back from its dual setback last week.
The Cyclones will start their weekend off against the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks (0-1, 0-0 Summit) in Des Moines at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center at 1 p.m. Saturday. The first day of competition will wrap up with a dual against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks (0-2, 0-0 Big Sky) at 4 p.m.
Saturday will be the first meeting with the Mavericks and the second against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks. The Cyclones and Fighting Hawks met earlier this year during the Gopher Invitational fall tournament in Minneapolis, Minn.
Alejandra Galvis (ISU) defeated Faith Lee (North Dakota) on day one of completion 6-1, 6-4. Galvis matched up against North Dakota again on day two, playing with Regina Espindola in a doubles match against Mimi Yunker/Preethi Kasilingam where the Cyclones pair defeated the Fighting Hawks pairing 6-1.
On the second day of competition in Des Moines, the Cyclones will face off against the Drake Bulldogs (0-1, 0-0 MVC) at 2 p.m. for the second time this season. The first match up came during a fall season tournament at the Drake Jamboree, where the pairing of Samantha Budai and Liza Buss finished its doubles weekend perfect. Iowa State went 3-1 in the Drake Jamboree weekend against Drake opponents.
This weekend's competition stands as a great opportunity to get the spring season back on track. Check back to Cyclones.com as the weekend progresses for updated results on each dual.
