Three Cyclones Return To Action At ITA Regionals

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team will send three players to the ITA Regionals at the University of Minnesota this weekend. The tournament, which starts Thursday and runs through Sunday, will be played at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
Regina Espindola will get things started for the Cyclones on Thursday at 8 a.m. The sophomore will face Southern Illinois' top singles player Xiwei Cai in the first round with the winner advancing to face Drake's Melania Jaglarz.
Sami Budai, the No. 17 seed, received a first-round bye and will take the court at 2 p.m. against Minnesota's Cammy Frei.
Freshman Maty Cancini also was given a bye in the opening round. Cancini will face either Iowa's Anastasia Reimchen or Missouri State's Alye Darter at 12:30 p.m.
Budai and Cancini will also be playing doubles this weekend. The duo opens play Friday at 9 a.m. facing South Dakota State's Laura Romero and Zorka Sviban.
