WATERLOO, Iowa - The Iowa State soccer team (10-6-1, 3-3-1 Big 12) defeated the Northern Iowa Panthers (8-6-3, 2-1-2 Missouri Valley) 1-0, on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Klasey Medelberg scored her team-high fourth goal of the season for the game-winner.
Turning Point of the Game
Both teams were feeling each other out throughout the first half and the Panthers started with a strong second half. In the 68th minute, Klasey Medelberg got the ball near the right corner and chipped a ball near the far post. The ball floated up and over the UNI keeper and landed in the side-netting of the goal. The Cyclones defended well the rest of the game and shutdown any Panther chances to hold on to a 1-0 victory.

Lauren Roeling. With Kasey Opfer out due to injury, Lauren Roeling played the 74 minutes at the holding midfield position. Roeling won numerous balls out of the air and shutdown any chances that the Panthers had offensively.Â
Coach Said It
"Coming off a big win on Friday night and turning around to play is tough trying to get your emotions back up for the game," head coach Tony Minatta said. "We did what we had to do. It wasn't the prettiest game we played, but we gutted it out, we defended hard, and we came up with a goal that we needed to seal a win. Credit to UNI. Chris has done a fantastic job. Their players really played a disciplined game. They worked the ball around and created opportunities for themselves. Now we can just focus on Big 12 games. Obviously we have our last game against Kansas on Friday and it's time to start thinking about that."
Game Notes
* Klasey Medelberg scored her fourth goal of the season and her second in consecutive games.
* Lindsey Hendon added to her school-record with her tenth shutout.
