CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 16 Iowa State women's golf is off to a fantastic start at the Hurricane Invitational after carding a first-round 281 this afternoon. The Cyclones are currently in second place in the strong field, four shots behind Northwestern at 277.
ISU's 281 ties for the third-lowest 18-hole team score in school history.
ISU is one of nine teams in the field ranked in the top-50 in the latest Golfstat national rankings.
The Cyclones' outstanding score was aided by a pair of sub-70 rounds from sophomore Nattapan Siritrai (68) and freshman Parinda Phokan (69). Siritrai is tied for second after carding four birdies and just one bogey in her career-low round today. Phokan, who also had four birdies today, is tied for fifth after firing her second sub-70 round of the season.
Freshman Chayanit Wangmahaporn is currently tied for 11th with an even-par 71 and Celia Barquin is tied for 26th after firing an opening-round 73.
The second round of play will take place tomorrow.
