AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State wrestling program will celebrate 100 years of wrestling on Sunday (Feb. 14) in its final home match of the season vs. West Virginia.
Iowa State owns one of the most storied traditions in the sport of wrestling. With eight team NCAA national championships and 69 individual NCAA titles, Cyclone wrestling is synonymous with success.
Sunday will be a great chance for fans to pay tribute to the Cyclone legends on the mat. Many former national champions and All-Americans will be in attendance, including Dale Bahr, Stewart Carter, Pete Galea, Gordon Hassman, Vic Marcucci, Tom Peckham and Reg Wicks just to name a few.
The match will begin at 2 p.m., as Iowa State will honor its four seniors (Earl Hall, Wil Stetzel, Tyler Swope, Tanner Weatherman) competing for the final time in Hilton Coliseum.
At intermission, a short video showcasing the history of the program will be shown on the videoboard followed by honoring all of the wrestling alumni in attendance.
