AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State tennis team (9-2, 0-0 Big 12) will look to bounce back from their loss last weekend against the Minneapolis Gophers. The loss against the Gophers was only the second loss of the season and the first since January 17th against the UTEP Miners.
The Cyclones will be competing against the Arkansas State Red Wolves (0-7, 0-0 Sun Belt) on Thursday at 11:15 a.m. at the outdoor courts in Allen Park in Jonesboro, Ark. This will mark the first time the Cyclones and Red Wolves will compete against eachother this year. Iowa State hopes this match will put them back on track towards another winning streak.
The team has been focused all season long on stealing the doubles point to gain momentum. They were unable to gain the doubles point against Minnesota. The Cyclones are 6-1 on the season when they start off a dual by winning the doubles point.
Senior Alejandra Galvis will be looking to build upon the already strong campaign she is having in her final season as a Cyclone. Galvis is currently 18-4 in singles play with her last loss coming on January 17th. Freshman Liza Buss will use the match on Thursday as the first chance to bounce back from her loss to Julia Couter of Minnesota last weekend. The loss to Couter was Buss' first loss since August 27th during the fall season.
Thursday's match up will be be a great chance for the team to get their momentum back as the Big 12 season is set to begin in under a month.
