ISU Earns Three Wins Saturday at SF State

SAN FRANCISCO – The Iowa State track and field teams wrapped up its weekend out West with three victories Saturday at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival. ISU also had competitors in action at the Stanford Invitational.
At Cox Stadium in San Francisco, the Cyclones swept the 400-meter hurdles competition. On the men's' side, Derek Jones followed up an impressive 51.99 at Stanford yesterday with a better 51.85 to get the win in the event. On the women's side, Alyssa Gonzalez crossed the line first in 1:01.05, which is the new meet record for the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.
Iowa State also got an event win from Elijah Young in the men's 110-meter hurdles, with the Des Moines native crossing the line first in 14.96.
At Stanford, Jasmine Staebler starred for the Cyclones in the 800-meter run, crossing the line in 2:07.59. It will not be long before the freshman makes her breakthrough in Iowa State's all-time top-10 list for the event, as she missed out on making it by two-tenths of a second.

Iowa State will be at a pair of meets in Arizona next week. ISU's decathletes and heptathletes will compete at the Jim Click Shootout Multi's hosted by Arizona on Thursday and Friday. Other Cyclone student-athletes will be at the Sun Angel Track Classic hosted by Arizona State on Saturday.
