Three CWC Athletes Compete For Olympic Team

AMES, Iowa – This weekend, three Cyclone Wrestling Club athletes will compete for a shot to represent Team USA at the 2016 Olympic games in Rio. Angel Escobedo, Deron Winn and Kyven Gadson are all set to scrap in Iowa City.
Both Escobedo (57kg) and Gadson (97 kg) earned their spot at the qualifier at the Men's Freestyle Olympic Trials Qualifier earlier this year. Winn joined the field at 86 kg by winning the last-chance qualifier in Cedar Falls last weekend.
Each of the three senior-level athletes will compete on Sunday, April 10. The qualifier will consist of a mini-tournament, culminated with a Championship Series. It will be a best two out of three showdown for a spot on the USA Olympic Team.
In the 74 kg and 97 kg brackets, Jordan Burroughs and Kyle Snyder are already slated for a spot in the Championship Series as they are returning world medalists.
Wrestling will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday at Carver Hawkeye Arena. The Championship Series will begin at 6 p.m. that evening.
