PALO ALTO, California – Iowa State had a trio of men's middle distance runners in action Sunday afternoon at the Payton Jordan Invitational hosted by Stanford. The Cyclones saw Jacob Aune and Brandon Wheat take part in the 800-meter run, and Christian DeLago in the 1,500-meter run.
DeLago recorded a season-best time of 3:45.87 in section five of the 1,500-meter run, which also doubles as the top time by a Cyclone in the event this season. DeLago was among the front of the pack during the first 1,000 of his race, and while he faded to eventually finish seventh in his section, he had done enough work to post the best mark of his season.
In the men's 800, Aune and Wheat have become a familiar pair, but for the first time in 2016, the duo were not running together, as they were in separate sections. Wheat was in section four, where he was able to finish a strong fourth in 1:50.52, while Aune was also fourth in his section, section six, in 1:51.75.
