BYDGOSZCZ, Poland - Iowa State incoming freshman Branna MacDougall set a Canadian Junior National record on the way to a 10th place finish in the 5,000-meter run at the IAAF U-20 World Championships on Saturday morning. MacDougall dropped 22 seconds off her personal best via a clocking of 15:48.80.
MacDougall earned her spot at the U-20 World CHampionships by running a 16:10.70 at the London Distance Series in Ontario in May. She showed herself ready as part of a very fast field which featured eight of the top-10 finishers setting a personal best. The Canadian also holds the honor of being the highest finisher among the North American contingent.
MacDougall will come to Iowa State with a very accomplished resume. She already has a plethora of experience running in the Red and White of Canada. She also ran at the Pan American Cup in Venezuela in March, leading a Canada 1-2 to give herself individual and team gold medals in the junior women's division. In 2015 at the Pan American Cross Country Cup in Colombia, she was the bronze medalist in the junior women's division.
