AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State soccer team defeated the Creighton Bluejays, 3-1, at Morrison Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Senior Koree Willer, freshman Tegan Alexander, and sophomore Klasey Medelberg scored for the Cyclones, while sophomore Emily Steil assisted on two goals.

Turning Point of the Game
The Cyclones came out in the second half on a mission. Iowa State maintained possession in the offensive third nearly the entire second half and played one of the best halves in head coach Tony Minatta's career. The Bluejays got their first shot of the second half with just 11 minutes remaining in the game.
Willer tied the game at 1-1 in the first half on a great pass by Steil that carried over a Bluejay defender. Iowa State was able to take the lead in the 65th minute when Tegan Alexander sent the ball into the top left corner off of another Steil assist. In the 80th minute, Klasey Medelberg received a long ball and got behind the Creighton backline. Medelberg made a good move and side-stepped the goalkeeper before placing the ball cleanly into the goal.
Cyclone Game Ball Goes to...
Emily Steil. The sophomore midfielder really helped the Cyclones keep the possession in the offensive third throughout the second half. Steil assisted the first two goals to bring her total to three this season. Many other Cyclones would be deserving because it was a complete team effort to get the game turned around in the second half.

Coach Said It
"We got off to a slow start," Tony Minatta said. "It was unfortunate to give up the early goal the way we did, but we made some substitutions and those players really made an impact off of the bench and kind of took the game over. We challenged the players at halftime that started, and they more than answered the call. They took the game over and played some of the best soccer that we have played in the start of that second half. Tegan got the go-ahead-goal and then Klasey made it 3-1. Hats off to Creighton. They are a great team and they were working the ball well to put us under pressure early and cause us problems. It just shows that we have a lot to work on even though we did get a good result of it."
