Cyclones Finish 11th At Dick McGuire Invite

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — In its season-opening meet, the No. 25 Iowa State women's golf team finished 11th out of 16 teams at the Dick McGuire Invitational — carding a three-round total of 877 (290-294-293).

Oklahoma State won the team title at 844.

The Cyclones were immersed in a highly competitive field. Half of the teams competing ranked in Golfweek's top-25, seven of whom ranked ahead of the No. 25 Cyclones (No. 8 Northwestern, No. 9 Oklahoma State, No. 10 Arizona, No. 11 Arizona State, No. 19 UNLV, No. 21 San Diego State and No. 22 Colorado).

Junior Celia Barquin led the charge for the Cyclones, finishing in a tie for 25th with a three-round total of 217 (72-75-70). Not far behind was sophomore Chayanit Wangmahaporn, also finishing in the top-40 individuals.

Wangmahaporn carded a consistent total of 219 (73-72-74).

In her first collegiate meet, rookie Amelia Grohn broke into the top-50 with a three-round total of 221 — scoring a team-low second-round total of 1-under (71).

Iowa State is back in action at the Schooner Fall Classic, Sept. 24-26.
