The Cyclones beat Villanova 6-1
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Cyclone tennis team (1-1, 0-0 Big 12) beat the Villanova Wildcats (0-1, 0-0 Big EAST) 6-1 for their first victory of the spring season.
Iowa State was impressive during singles play as they swept all six matches. The Cyclones were led by the performances of Maty Cancini and Sami Budai, who won their matches 6-3, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-2, respectively. Sami Budai, who is nationally ranked, continues to rack up wins as she climbs in the Cyclone record book. Iowa State also picked up wins from Regina Espindola and Erin Freeman. Annabella Bonadonna and Margarita Timakova were also impressive as they took care of business in their matches.
The Cyclones will look to regroup in doubles action as Villanova took two of three matches from Iowa State. The pairings of Cancini/Budai and Espindola/Alvarez were both downed by the Wildcats.
Iowa State will be back in action tomorrow at 10 a.m. Central Time in Bethlehem. The Cyclones will look to finish off their road trip with a victory against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks (0-0).
