Cyclones Finish Weekend Strong Against Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Iowa State tennis team (2-1, 0-0 Big 12) picked up its second win of the spring season Sunday, defeating the Lehigh Mountain Hawks (0-1, 0-0 Patriot), 6-1, at the Lewis Tennis Center.

The Cyclones bounced back from yesterday's double matches to sweep the Mountain Hawks to give them a 1-0 lead heading into singles play. The top pairing of Samantha Budai and Maty Cancini got the first win beating their opponents, Christina Anyeung and Jamie Campisi, 6-3. Margarita Timakova and Annabella Bonadonna defeated the pairing of Sibel Can and Leigh Friendman 6-3, as well.

The team took their momentum from doubles and impressed during singles play as they won five of the six matches. Budai in the top spot, defeated Anyeung, 6-3, 6-1, to cap her day off undefeated. Erin Freeman clinched the match for the Cyclones, defeating Gracie Lin, 6-4, 6-1.

Iowa State will be back in action next weekend in Iowa City, Iowa where they will face off against the Montana Grizzlies (1-1, 0-0 Big Sky) and the in-state rival Iowa Hawkeyes (3-0, 0-0 Big 10).
