AMES, Iowa – The awards continued to pile in for Iowa State's Jhoanmy Luque on Thursday, as she was named the Big 12 Women's Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Year, the conference has announced. Luque's conquest marks the third time ISU has picked up the league Performer of the Year award, with Betsy Saina earning it back-to-back seasons in 2012 and 2013.
Luque's 2017 has been filled by stellar performances, and last week's Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships was no different. The Venezuelan swept the women's long jump and triple jump competitions to earn the Big 12's Women's High Point Award for the meet.
In the long jump, Luque earned her title with a career-best leap of 21-5 1/4, just a quarter of an inch off the school record. 24 hours later in the triple jump, Luque soared again, posting a career-best leap of 44-9 1/2 to run away with the competition and the sweep.
A three-time All-American heading into this season, Luque will look to add to her collection at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 10-11 at Texas A&M.
