Iowa State Falls To No. 21 Texas, 4-0

URBANDALE, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team (15-6, 1-4 Big 12) dropped its match against the No. 21 Texas Longhorns (10-6, 4-2 Big 12) Sunday morning at Life Time Fitness in Urbandale.
Despite a strong start in doubles play for the Cyclones, the Longhorns were eventually able to claim the doubles point. Texas got wins at the No. 1 and 3 courts.
With three players in top 100, Texas had too much firepower for Iowa State to keep up singles play. The Longhorns were able to notch three wins and secure the 4-0 win.
The Cyclones dropped matches on courts 3, 5, and 6. Regina Espindola was downed by No. 84 Petra Ganic, 1-6, 0-6, while Margarita Timakova and Annabella Bonadonna also were defeated by their Longhorn opponents.
Iowa State will be back on the road against the No. 4 Texas Tech Red Raiders (17-3, 5-0 Big 12) and No. 33 TCU Horned Frogs (10-6, 2-2 Big 12). The Red Raiders bring an 11-match winning streak to their dual against Iowa State. The Horned Frogs have also been impressive this season as they have gone undefeated in home matches.
The match against Texas Tech will be on Friday at 3 p.m. and Iowa State will take on TCU on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Fort Worth.
Sami Budai will look to continue her climb in the record book next weekend. Budai needs just two wins in order to be second in Cyclone history in overall career wins.
