Ames, Iowa – Three members of the Iowa State tennis team earned spots in Sunday matches at the ITA Central Regional in Norman, Oklahoma Saturday. Ashlee Narker qualified for the singles quarterfinals, while Mari Paz Alberto Vilar and Stanislava Shulzhenko advanced to the doubles semifinals.
Narker began the day in the Round of 32, where she made quick work of Kansas' Meg McCarty, 6-3, 6-1. She then knocked off No. 79 Salakthip Ounmang from Oklahoma, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, to earn a trip to Sunday's quarterfinals. Alberto Vilar fell her Round of 32 singles match Saturday.
Shulzhenko and Alberto Vilar took down Nebraska's Reya Coe and Yuzu Miyoshi, 8-2, to earn a spot in the doubles semifinals on Sunday.
All three Cyclones will face players from Arkansas Sunday, as Narker will face Carolina Gomez Alonso, while Shulzhenko and Alberto Vilar will take on No. 27 Chloe Noel and Gloriana Nahum.
