Cyclone Distance Impresses at Cardinal Classic

STANFORD, California – The Iowa State track and field team's distance runners had a strong night at the Cardinal Classic Friday at Stanford. All four Cyclones ran at least collegiate best marks, with many ISUers putting themselves in strong position to advance to the NCAA West Preliminaries at the end of May.
Jasmine Staebler made her outdoor season debut Friday night. A First Team All-American in the 800 during the indoor season, Staebler ran to an outdoor personal best of 2:05.67 to take fifth in the invitational section. The time also moves her up to No. 7 in Iowa State's all-time top 10 for the outdoor women's 800-meter run.
Staebler's Cyclone teammate Erinn Stenman-Fahey ran to a collegiate-best of 2:07.26 to take third in second two of the 800. The Canadian's effort also puts her on the bubble for making it into the top 48 for the NCAA Championships West Preliminaries next month.
On the men's side, Andrew Jordan has moved himself into a virtual lock to advance to the West Prelims in the 5,000 after running a 13:55.12 to finish ninth in Section 1 of the men's 5K. Jordan dropped 30 seconds off his 5,000 mark from the indoor season, when he ran 14:25. Thomas Pollard was close behind in 11th place in 14:02.48, dropping eight seconds from his mark he ran at Stanford three weeks ago.

Iowa State has student-athletes in the men's and women's 1,500-meter run at the Cardinal Classic tomorrow. The Cyclones' events will begin at 8:16 p.m. Central Time. Meanwhile, the Cyclones will be in action at the Musco Twilight in Iowa City. Field events start at noon and track events at 3:15 p.m.
