Cyclones Wrap Up First Day At ITA Regionals

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Senior Annabella Bonadonna and freshman Ekaterina Grib each won a pair of singles matches and were unbeaten in doubles play on the opening day of the ITA Regionals in Iowa City.
Bonadonna defeated UNI's Kate Merrick in her first singles match by a score of 6-2, 6-0 and then downed Minnesota's Annemarie Emme in come-from-behind fashion, 3-6, 6-3, 10-2. Bonadonna will face Minnesota's Juliet Zhang in her next contest.
Bonadonna also teamed with Maty Cancini to defeat the Arkansas State duo of Anita Detlava and Berta Masdeval Masip, 8-4, to improve to a perfect 3-0 on the first day. The win moved Bonadonna into a tie for third all-time at ISU with 73 career doubles victories.
Grib also had a strong first day for the Cyclones. After teaming up with Regina Espindola to beat Omaha's Ines Absisan and Janelle Wilson, 8-7 (4), in the opening round, the pair disposed of Tulsa's Marina Davtyan and Megan Hopton by the same tally.
Grib also won in singles action, beating North Dakota's Allie Ochotorena, 6-4, 6-2.
The Cyclones will return to action tomorrow morning.
