Texas Downs Iowa State, 4.5-0.5 In Match Play

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – The Iowa State women's golf team dropped a 4.5-0.5 decision to Texas in match play in the Championship bracket of the SDSU March Mayhem this afternoon.

The Cyclones will face Northwestern tomorrow morning in the third-place match of the bracket.

Chayanit Wangmahaporn earned the lone Cyclone point by halving her match vs. Emilee Hoffman of Texas. Wangmahaporn was 2 Up through 10 holes before Hoffman tied it up with four holes to play when Wangmahaporn suffered a bogey on No. 17. Both players recorded pars on the final four holes to earn a half a point each.

The Cyclones were close in a pair of matches, as Celia Barquin Arozamena and Amelia Grohn both lost matches that went down to the final hole.

Barquin Arozamena fell down early in her match, as UT's Kaitlyn Papp was 3 Up after 11 holes. However, Barquin Arozamena rallied to win three out of four holes behind a pair of birdies to even the match with three holes to play. A bogey by Barquin Arozamena on the 16^th hole was the difference in the match.

Grohn was also down by three holes before eventually tying her match. A bogey on the 17^th hole opened the door for the Longhorns' Greta Voelker.
