AMES, Iowa – The Nation's top Freestyle and Greco talent is set to descend on Las Vegas this weekend for the 2018 Marine Corps U.S. Open. The event will take place at South Point Arena, April 26-28.
Iowa State will be sending six wrestlers on its current roster to compete in the UWW Junior Freestyle tournament. The top-eight finishers in each bracket will earn a shot to make the Junior World Team at the UWW Junior World Team Trials in Rochester, Minn., May 18-19.
Freshmen Austin Gomez (61 kg), Ryan Leisure (65 kg), Marcus Coleman (79 kg), Tucker Morrison (79 kg) Alec McDowell (86 kg) and Gannon Gremmel (125 kg) are all set to represent the Cardinal and Gold in Las Vegas.

The Cyclones will also have two future grapplers at the tournament in David Carr (70 kg) and Hunter DeJong (97 kg).
Both Carr and DeJong have seen experience at the international level. Carr was a member of the Cadet World Team and earned a bronze medal for the United States. Last summer, DeJong was a member of the Cadet Pan-American team and won gold in Freestyle and silver in Greco.
