ISU Has Strong Second Day At Gopher Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Senior Regina Espindola joined the 100-win club as Iowa State completed a strong second day at the Gopher Invitational at the University of Minnesota's Baseline Tennis Center.
The Cyclones went 12-4 on the tournament's second day.
Espindola won her 100th career match while teaming with Maty Cancini. The pair beat South Dakota's Natalie Kmoskova and Emma Tranberg, 6-2, to make Espindola the 15th Cyclone in school history to reach the 100-win mark. The pair followed with a 6-1 win over North Dakota's Preethi Kasilingham and Kaede Amano to win their Friday bracket.
In other doubles action, the duo of Ekaterina Grib and Margarita Timakova improved to 4-0 in the tournament with wins against teams from Minnesota and Nebraska. In the first match of the day, the pair beat Minnesota's River Hart and Juliet Zhang, 7-5. They clinched the bracket by cruising to a 6-2 win against the Husker's duo of Jessica Aragon and Vasanti Shinde.
Friday also marked the start of singles play, with Iowa State finishing with a record of 6-2. In bracket play, Cancini, Grib, Espindola, Timakova and Annabella Bonadonna all advancing to the semifinals of their respective brackets. Freshman Savannah Williams won her match in her round-robin flight.
Saturday's action starts at 9 a.m. with doubles play.
