AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team will continue its fall season this weekend at the Hokie Fall Invite in Blacksburg, Virginia. The tournament will run from Friday through Sunday at the Burleson Tennis Center.
2018-19 HOKIE FALL INVITE
Iowa State will send the same eight players that competed last weekend to compete in singles and doubles action against opponents from Appalachian State, Bluefield State, Delaware, Georgia Southern, James Madison, Liberty, Marshall, Penn State, Radford, VCU, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.
Play begins daily at 8 a.m. (CT) with doubles action. Friday will feature two rounds of doubles and one singles match. Saturday will have one doubles match and one singles match and Sunday's schedule includes one singles and one doubles contest.
LAST TIME ON THE COURT
Last weekend at the Gopher Invitational, Margarita Timakova and Savannah Williams claimed singles titles in their respective flights. Regina Espindola became the 15th Cyclone in school history to join the 100-win club. The Cyclones had a strong showing all around, recording a 35-18 record in singles and doubles action.
RECORD BOOK CHECK
The climb continues for seniors Annabella Bonadonna and Regina Espindola. Both players have opportunities to move up the career record charts this weekend.
Bonadonna sits seven wins shy of fourth-place Meghan Cassens on the overall wins list. She enters the weekend with 126 career victories, an average of 31.5 per season, and needs seven to tie Cassens. Bonadonna is a win shy of ninth on the career singles win list and four wins shy of the third spot on the career doubles win list.Â
Espindola has 105 career victories after joining the 100-win club last weekend. The Tabasco, Mexico native has 56 doubles wins, the ninth-most in school history. She's two wins behind Suna Bayrakal, who played for the Cyclones from 1985-89.
